Letters
USS Jarvis

Dear Sir,

I came across your website during one of many searches I have done regarding the USS JARVIS.  You mentioned a photo taken from the HMAS Canberra.  I believe it was taken shortly before the ship was sunk.

My father was on the USS JARVIS during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was recommended for a citation by his skipper in the action report Dec 12, 1941.  His name was Harry Schultz.

Would it be possible for you to send me a copy of this photograph? I have tried but cannot find a copy of Mr. Payne's book. Thank you for the good work on your website. Tim Schultz

Hello Tim,

Nice to hear from you, and thank you for your kind words about my Web Log. The photo of USS Jervis attached. Of course she came to an unfortunate end after Savo, trying to sneak off to Australia for major repairs. It was indeed a dreadful time so long ago in 1942. I am still suprised at the interest in that time so long after the event.

With best wishes from Australia.
Mackenzie Gregory.
